Luis Alberto's farm, Vista Bella, is one of the highest elevation coffee farms in Nicaragua!  He purchased the farm about 6 years ago and it was planted in a variety of coffee called Catimor.  This was a bit unusual because that variety does better at lower elevations and the results were very low yielding.  To address this Luis planted a variety that I would call "Nicaragua Bourbon".  There is not much genetic evidence that it is bourbon but the physical evidence and the cup profile are leaning toward bourbon.  The most important thing is that it has been more productive at the higher elevation and the cup profile is really nice.  It has a unique blend of the typical Nicaragua apple and chocolate with a tropical fruit top note that is more typical of African origins.
